A Variety Of Media Types And Card Readers Makes Taking And Sharing Photos Easier And More Cost-Effective

  It’s not a secret that memory cards are a key component to any digital camera just like film is a key component to any film-based camera. Like film, there are enough different types of memory cards available to keep you scratching your head when you go to the store to buy one. We’ll unravel what you need to know in order to make the informed choice when it’s time to buy a new card.  
     
   
     
  When it comes to memory card options, the first thing to determine is what media works with your camera. Most digital cameras use only one type of media, generally either CompactFlash Type I or Type II, SmartMedia, Secure Digital, MultiMediaCard or the new xD memory. Some cameras may have more options utilizing multiple media, for instance, CompactFlash Type I, Type II and Microdrives or combinations of CompactFlash and SmartMedia. If you own a Sony camera, your storage media is the Sony Memory Stick. Most of these media types (excluding the Microdrive) use solid-state construction, meaning there are no moving parts to break if you drop your digital film on the ground.
