Page 2 of 4  Sigma offers the 10-20mm ƒ/4-5.6 EX DC HSM in mounts for popular small-sensor D-SLRs (it can’t be used with 35mm cameras or full-frame D-SLRs), equivalent to 15-30mm on a 35mm camera; plus, the 12-24mm ƒ/4.5-5.6 EX DG, which can be used on both digital and film SLRs (equivalent to an 18-36mm when used on a small-sensor D-SLR). Sigma also offers the 8mm ƒ/3.5 EX DG circular fish-eye (which becomes a 12mm nearly full-frame fish-eye when used on small-sensor D-SLRs) and 15mm ƒ/2.8 EX DG diagonal fish-eye (equivalent to a 22.5mm full-frame fish-eye when used on a small-sensor D-SLR). Sigma’s lenses are available in mounts for Canon EOS, Nikon/Fujifilm, Pentax/Samsung, Sigma and Sony/Maxxum SLRs.  Sony’s 11-18mm ƒ/4.5-5.6 DT zoom (equivalent to a 16.5-27mm zoom on a 35mm camera) was designed specifically for its DSLR-A100 (it also can be used with the now-out-of-production Konica Minolta Maxxum D-SLRs). Wide-angle aficionados also can use Sony’s 16mm ƒ/2.8 full-frame fish-eye (which provides framing equivalent to a 24mm fish-eye on a 35mm camera, and can be used on all Sony/Maxxum-mount cameras, digital and film).  Tamron offers the SP AF11-18mm ƒ/4.5-5.6 Di II LD for small-sensor D-SLRs (equivalent to 16.5-27mm on a 35mm camera), and the SP AF14mm ƒ/2.8 rectilinear (equivalent to a 21mm when used on a small-sensor D-SLR) for both digital and film SLRs. The Tamron AF11-18mm is available in mounts for Canon EOS, Nikon/Fujifilm and Sony/Maxxum SLRs, and the AF14mm is available for Canon EOS and Nikon/Fujifilm mounts.  Tokina’s wide entries are the AT-X 12-24mm ƒ/4 AF PRO DX superwide and AT-X 10-17mm ƒ/3.5-4.5 AF DX fish-eye zooms, D-SLR-only models that are equivalent to 18-36mm and 15-25.5mm on a 35mm camera, respectively. Both are available in mounts for Canon EOS and Nikon/Fujifilm D-SLRs.  At first glance, Four Thirds System wide-angle fans would seem to have it a bit tougher, since the Four Thirds System has a 2x 35mm camera-equivalency factor. But Olympus offers the Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm ƒ/4.0 (equivalent to 14-28mm on a 35mm camera, making it the widest zoom available for a D-SLR), as well as an 11-22mm ƒ/2.8-3.5 (equivalent to 22-44mm) and an ED 8mm ƒ/3.5 full-frame fish-eye (equivalent to a 16mm fish-eye). All Four Thirds System lenses can be used on all Four Thirds System cameras; currently, those include all Olympus D-SLRs, plus Leica’s Digilux 3 and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1.   |
