    Fujifilm FinePix S700Fujifilm FinePix S700
The economically priced, SLR-styled S700 features 7.1 megapixels, a 10x zoom lens (38-380mm 35mm-camera equivalent), ISOs up to 1600 at full resolution, an ISO-based Picture Stabilization mode, compatibility with both xD-Picture Cards and Secure Digital (SD) media, a high-resolution 1.5-inch LCD monitor and more.

Select Picture Stabilization mode, and the camera automatically sets higher ISOs to maintain higher shutter speeds as light levels drop. In Dual Shot mode, the camera shoots two images in rapid succession, one with flash and one without, allowing you to choose which rendition you prefer when you go through the images at your computer. In Super Macro mode, the S700 focuses down to 0.4 inches.

Fourteen preprogrammed scene modes add items like fireworks, sunset, snow, beach and text to the usual portrait, landscape, sports and close-up modes, automatically setting the camera for optimally shooting the selected types of subjects. The S700 also shoots 640 x 480- and 320 x 240-pixel movies at 30 fps, with mono sound.

    Samsung NV11Samsung NV11
Samsung introduced some additions to its NV line of stylish compact digital cameras, with the 10-megapixel NV11 leading the way. You’re first struck by the stylishly slim, black, stainless-steel body with a blue ring around the lens, but this camera’s beauty is more than skin deep.

Features include an intuitive Smart Touch user interface, a 2.7-inch high-definition LCD monitor, a 5x Schneider optical zoom lens (38-190mm 35mm-camera equivalent), ISOs up to 1600 and Advanced Shake Reduction, which reduces image blur by electronically compensating for camera shake. In Super Macro mode, at the wide zoom setting, the NV11 will focus down to 0.4 of an inch (to 19.6 inches at the tele setting).

Face Recognition technology automatically adjusts focus and exposure for faces in a scene. The NV11 will also shoot MPEG-4 VGA (640 x 480) movies at 30 fps, with 5x optical zooming, for up to 4 GB duration, assuming you have an SDHC card of that capacity loaded. There’s also 20 MB of internal memory.

    Sigma SD14Sigma SD14
Sigma’s previously unveiled SD14 is now available. The new D-SLR features the unique Foveon X3 image sensor, which records all three colors (red, green and blue) at every pixel site for “film-like” image quality. (Conventional image sensors record only one color at each pixel site, interpolating the other colors from surrounding pixels using complex algorithms.) Unlike previous Sigma D-SLRs, the SD14 can record images in JPEG as well as RAW format.

Surrounding the unique sensor is a straightforward camera body with intuitive controls and a 2.5-inch LCD monitor. Handy features include an easy-to-use mirror lockup, high-eyepoint viewfinder that shows 98 percent of the actual image area and a built-in sensor dust protector.

Sigma is best known as a lens maker, and the SD14 accepts more than 40 Sigma SA-mount lenses, from an 8mm fish-eye to an 800mm super-telephoto, including five 1:1 macro lenses. The Foveon sensor has a magnification factor of 1.7x (a 100mm lens on the SD14 frames like a 170mm lens on a 35mm SLR), so that an 800mm effectively becomes a 1360mm on the SD14.
    Estimated Street Price: $1,599.
