First Look: Nikon D2x

By Ibarionex R. Perello

The high-performance camera provides instant power-up and a fast 37 ms shutter lag.

The continuous firing mode delivers 5 fps for 15 consecutive NEF images. The 6.8-megapixel High Speed Cropped mode provides 8 fps for 25 NEF images.

Three separate sensors deliver precise auto white balance and auto tone control. Manual white-balance controls include presets and direct setting of Kelvin color temperature.

A new DX Format CMOS sensor captures 12.4 million effective pixels and is optimized for use with DX lenses while maintaining limited compatibility with older AF and MF lenses.

The WT-2 wireless system offers remote triggering and image downloading using the IEEE 802.11G standard and Nikon Capture software.

Two new Adobe color modes increase the available color space options for improved rendering of skin tones. Support for sYCC color space provides a wider color gamut for JPEG files.

The improved 3-D Color Matrix Metering II technology enhances the 1,005-pixel metering sensor to identify and optimize areas of shadows and highlights.
