This 8-Megapixel Camera Packs Advanced Features In A Small
Design
By Ibarionex R. Perello
Designed for the
serious photographer who wants extensive controls in a compact
package, the 8-megapixel Nikon Coolpix 8700 delivers. Weighing
only 17 ounces, its amazing how much camera Nikon fits
into such a small package. The design of the generous 35-280mm
ED zoom lens includes extra-low dispersion glass, which ensures
improved color accuracy and contrast. As well as including its
best glass in the lens design, the camera has a precise, 256-segment
Matrix metering system, a five-area autofocus sensor and an
accurate flash exposure meter.
The camera boots
up in about two seconds and, although not as fast as an SLR,
its shutter lag has noticeably improved over earlier models.
By pre-focusing on my subject, I captured fleeting facial expressions
without the frustration Ive experienced with other digital
cameras.
The inclusion of 12 Scene modes, such as Landscape, Portrait,
Night Portrait and Panorama Assist, lets you work quickly. The
camera also has Aperture-Priority, Shutter-Priority and Manual
exposure modes, as well as exposure and white-balance bracketing
features.
The resulting prints, some as large as 13x19-inches, revealed
amazing detail and crispness. Overall, whether shot in JPEG
or RAW (NEF), the camera delivered impressive pictures.
