  • Safe, stylish transport for a variety of gear and situations

toolboxAs photographers, we often travel via plane in pursuit of our craft, and flying involves a lot of airports with a lot of baggage handling. The Pelican Photo StudioCruzer 1510 is built to be the toughest airline-legal, carry-on case available for storing your camera, lenses and laptop safely in the plane's overhead bin. The modular interior is flexible with adjustable foam sizers, and the lid compartment also keeps a 13.3- or 15-inch Apple MacBook Pro laptop safe and sound. The StudioCruzer has a 17-inch retractable extension handle, along with side and front handles. A metal-reinforced padlock keeps equipment secure from theft, and the case is amazingly buoyant at up to 64.2 pounds. List Price: $245.

toolbox An ideal solution for long-term storage or sturdy transport, the wheeled thermal/waterproof Tropicana equipment case from Rimowa is a weatherproof way to keep your camera gear safe in any environment. Hermetically sealed for complete and airtight protection, the Tropicana can be submerged up to 67 feet and prevents water, humidity, dust and vermin from infiltrating the interior. The Tropicana also uses an expanded-polystyrene insulation, much like a cooler, to insulate from extreme heat and cold. The divider system individually partitions the interior into customized compartments for fitting gear, and Rimowa photo cases are manufactured by hand for a quality make. Models are available in three sizes. Estimated Street Price: $709-$809.

toolboxFor extended travel or for shipping ahead of time, Hardigg manufactures the big daddy of camera cases. The Storm Case iM3075 was originally built to meet the stringent protective specifications of the military and emergency services, and with an outer shell pressed of HPX resin and an interior of customizable cubed foam for egg crate-like protection, the iM3075 is perfect for preserving camera gear. The case is constructed to protect against vibration and severe impacts, and is airtight and watertight from the elements. In short, it's a tank for your gear. The iM3075 also features quick-release Press and Pull latches, cushioned handles, in-line wheels and a telescoping handle. Other Storm Case models are available. Estimated Street Price: $421; $462 (with foam cushioning); $664 (with padded dividers).
