Complete Home Theater Netgear’s Digital Entertainer HD EV A8000 multimedia receiver ($399) streams content from any Windows, Mac or Linux computer, iPods, network storage devices, internet radio and sites like YouTube and Flickr, and USB media devices like cameras or music or video players. It centrally organizes your media and can even schedule recording and playback of live broadcasts with the optional TV tuner installation.  The HD EV A8000 also outputs in high-resolution HD content, all the way up to 1080p, which is a perfect match with Mitsubishi’s 734 and Diamond lines of 1080p HDTVs. Available in 57-, 65- and 73-inch screens, both series offer NetCommand, a one-remote menu control for HDTV and the external components of your home theater system. There’s also a USB input—connect your camera for immediate display of photos up to 5 megapixels in size. The Diamond line also upgrades to a FireWire 400 interface for fast content transfer from compatible camcorders and cameras. Prices vary by model and screen size. For the ultimate playback of slideshows you’ve saved to disc, the Pioneer Elite BDP-HD1 Blu-ray DVD player ($1,500) connects through its HDMI cable, even upscaling your standard DVDs. The Elite BDP-HD1 can also output PC-based media through its Ethernet connection. And, with Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound, the Pioneer Elite yields some choice audio. To be able to channel that sound, JVC’s THD60 Home Theater System ($450) offers USB 2.0 hosting, HDMI input/output and an iPod dock for routing of photos and video from any attachable device to a connected display.   |
