First Look: Adobe Photoshop Elements 7

  • Photoshop elements offers an excellent blend of user-friendly features with pro-quality processing under the hood

    elementsThere’s plenty to like about the new Adobe Photoshop Elements 7, including some new tools that make image editing even easier. Elements 7 borrows a few of these from Photoshop CS, including the Smart Brush tool that lets you edit lighting, color and textures, and add more than 50 filter effects with simple layer adjustments, plus the Photomerge Scene Cleaner that helps you remove subjects or backgrounds from two or more images by combining them together to create one photo without the unwanted objects.     Photomerge Scene Cleaner

    Want a photo of a scene without people walking through it? Take two or more shots from the same perspective (use a tripod), then use the Photomerge Scene Cleaner to blend these images and remove unwanted elements.

    Smart Brush
    This tool allows you to apply layer adjustments to specific portions of your photo for color and tonality. Choose a preset and then brush the correction onto the photo.

    Organize
    Under the Organize tab, you’ll find all the tools you need to bring some order to your photos. They’re automatically organized by date, and you  also can add and edit keyword tags, categories and subcategories.

    Working With RAW
    Photoshop Elements 7 supports most common RAW image formats, letting you open, process and edit them through the Camera Raw dialog box.

    Fast Photo Search
    This allows you to locate images by searching for keywords, dates and times shot, album names, specific content or metadata information.

    Elements 7 comes with a Photoshop.com membership that includes 2 GB of online storage for your photos and an interactive online album that you can share with your family and friends.

    Magic Extractor
    Under the Image drop-down menu, you can find the Magic Extractor, which allows you to remove unwanted elements or backgrounds from your image with a simple Brush tool.

    Effects
    This palette is dedicated to various filter effects like Blur and artistic effects like Colored Pencil, Paint Daubs, Watercolor and Brush Strokes. You also can add Distortion, Noise, Texture and many other unique effects.

    Quick Fix
    Use the Quick Fix panel to apply red-eye removal, whiten teeth or adjust the blue sky in a picture. It also has a High Contrast Red Filter adjustment to create a high-contrast black-and-white image.

    Guided Edit
    This innovative feature provides guidance and support around specific editing tasks with thorough explanations that guide you through the various processes. With the Guided Edit function, you can do basic photo edits like cropping, lighting, exposure and color corrections, and touch up scratches and blemishes. It’s a great place to start for those new to the digital darkroom.
