Produce Poster-Sized Prints FromYour High-Resolution Digital Camera

By Ibarionex R. Perello

As digital cameras increase in resolution and affordability, photographers have the opportunity to create larger and larger prints. For those who have a desire to make prints well beyond the standard 8x10 inches, Hewlett-Packard offers an outstanding tool—the HP Designjet 130.

The large printer delivers incredible results that more than make up for its demand of desktop space. It produces prints as large as 24x64 inches, with a lightfastness of up to 82 years. The six-color printer, which has a 2400 dpi resolution, uses dye-based inks to deliver superior color and the rendering of a subtle gradation of tones. Resulting prints revealed an amazing amount of detail as well as strong, vibrant color in both matte and glossy surfaces. And the HP Designjet 130 can print panoramas with its roll-feed capability, as well as print on materials as thick as 0.02 inches via a rear-feed mechanism.

The ability to make prints that matched what I saw on my monitor was simpler than I had anticipated. The printer includes an Automatic Closed Loop Color calibration system that aids in outputting accurate and consistent results. The printer driver was easy to navigate and I was able to create wonderful prints virtually out of the box. List Price: $1,295.
